About this cause
Detroit has thousands of vacant lots. We work with residents to turn them into raised-bed gardens, with free plots, tools, compost and a shed on every site.
Each garden is run by a neighbourhood committee and grows around two tonnes of vegetables a year, much of it shared with the local food pantry.
Weekend workshops teach growing, cooking and preserving.
