A walking journey through the Japan most visitors never see. Follow the Nakasendo, the old samurai road between Kyoto and Edo, through cedar forests and villages of dark timber inns.
You walk 10 to 16 km a day with light daypacks while your bags travel ahead by courier.

Day-by-day itinerary
Welcome briefing and dinner near our hotel in Ueno.
Train to Matsumoto and its black castle, then on to Kamikochi.
A 14 km valley walk to Myojin pond and back beneath the Northern Alps.
Morning market, sake breweries and the old merchant quarter.
Walk Narai to Yabuhara, Magome to Tsumago and on to Nojiri, sleeping in minshuku each night.
Train to Kyoto for a gentle walk through Higashiyama and a farewell dinner.
The tour ends after breakfast in Kyoto.
