A first visit by age one sounds early, but it is the easiest way to make the dentist a normal, friendly place.
Before the visit
Read a picture book about the dentist together and play "count the teeth" at home. Avoid words like "hurt" or "needle", even to reassure.
What happens
Your child sits on your lap or rides in the chair. We count teeth, check for early decay and show you how to brush tiny teeth properly.
Most first visits last about fifteen minutes and end with a sticker and a high five.
After the visit
Praise your child and keep the next visit on the calendar. Regular, boring visits are the goal.
